We were approached by Nautica at Home interior Paints and asked to  refresh a space in our home for the fall season, and Bring the Energy of the Water into our Home by updating one room with a color inspired not only by the Nautica At Home signature color collection, but also by our favorite memory of the water. So I chose to do a Living room makeover, it needed it so bad! The Beard and I had a really fun weekend in Chicago a couple of months ago, we visited Lake Michigan and the Pier at Calumet Park. I snapped this Photo and thought it would be perfect to use as our room inspiration.

I then sent it off to Nautica and they chose my personalized color pallet based on this photo. They also had it turned into a lovely 16″x20″ canvas print for me to display in our newly renovated room. I loved the colors they sent back and We decided to go with Whale Gray.

It’s a gorgeous color. After we chose our Color we were off to Menards to pick up our paint and supplies. For our living room we used:

We started out by removing all of the switch and plug covers around the entire space. We then moved all of the furniture away from the walls and covered the floors. * Paint tip- We always put our paint trays inside a cardboard box, we do this to prevent any messes and makes it easy to scoot around the room with the roller.drop clothes paint tray in box

This is normally where you’d tape the trim and ceiling but we’ve painted so much we no longer need tape. We just use the 2 ” trim brushes and cut the paint in on the edges.

We were really impressed with how well the Nautica at Home Paint covered the old color which I HATED. I don’t really know what I was thinking when I chose that color but it was hideous. If you don’t remember here’s a shot of the Living room before.

The room didn’t look terrible it just was not the look I was going for. I’m so happy with the way it turned out. We also decided to take this opportunity to add the Fireplace I’ve been desperately wanting for years. It turned out absolutely GORGEOUS. The room looks completely different. I can honestly say this is the first time I’ve ever thought to myself this is exactly what I want this room to look like.living room after

Perfect. The color makes the room so warm and everything looks so much more rich. Here are a few shots of the Fireplace. It was really hard to get everything in one pic because of the vaulted ceiling

It’s exactly what I wanted. It turned out perfect!

That’s such a beautiful, rich color! I wish my husband let me paint at least one room with a color like that!

I am just joining your site. I love the paint color you chose, as well as your beautiful built-in bookshelves. I was wondering did you make the round coffee table, if so, do you have a tutorial on how to make it?

Hello Ivory! We did make our coffee table, but I haven’t done a tutorial on it yet. It’s a wooden cable spool that we attached 4 Hairpin legs to. Thank you so much for your inspiration we’ll get a tutorial up on that table very soon.
